December 31, 2007 at 3:53 pm | In Español | 5 CommentsHoy es el día…

<Hobbsee> effie_jayx: you’re late.
well, at least I didn’t get the stick of doom for being late
back to my post.
Merging
WHAT IS A MERGE?
taken from the UbuntuDevelopment/Merging entry in the Ubuntu Wiki:
” … In the beginning of each Ubuntu development cycle the packages in Ubuntu are updated to those in Debian unstable. However, because Ubuntu is not the same as Debian, some of the packages need to be modified to work in Ubuntu. There might also be bug fixes that Ubuntu developers have introduced into the packages…
Me and Merging
When I first started out trying to help in MOTU, I saw lot’s of people doing merges. and Not just MOTU, New people. I was very suprised. so I said, While in Rome… and I grabbed my first merge under the ever watchful eye of the more experienced MOTU’s. I did not know enough to help out with a merge. It was simply something I couldn’t get a hang of. mostly because I couldn’t undertand the process.
This time around It was different. with a little (or a lot of ) help from my MOTU friends (ScottK and mruiz) , I managed to pull it off. all I needed was to read more carefully and concentrate… here’s the knowledge you need UbuntuDevelopment/Merging
this is my first merge: merge bug #177163
Thank you all for the support and thanks for baring with me being a bit behind on my MOTU journey… I am learning the ropes
rm -rf != :-), != gnu/linux
December 17, 2007 at 8:09 pm | In Español | 1 Comment<ompaul> rm -rf != ![]()
<ompaul> != gnu/linux
, rm -rf != gnu/linux”
1era Jornadas de Investigación y desarrollo de tecnologías libres
December 12, 2007 at 12:10 pm | In English | Leave a CommentI am currently at the “1era jornadas de Investigación y desarrollo de tecnologías libres” in merida. I was invited to come here in the trip I made to Puerto Ordaz for the “V foro mundial del conocimiento libre” (read about that trip here).

As I travel around Venezuela, I have gotten the valuable oportunity to meet founding members of the F/OSS community and I have been greeted with open arms ubuntu-ve has gained a spot in the nationwide movement. I had the chance to meet with founding members and new young blood and discuss the role of the communities in our country. We had the chance to present the projects we are participating in (translation to Wayuu, documentation) and we explained the Idea behind LoCo teams. I have had the chance to meet local Ubunteros like David Hernandez and Luis Puentes. They have express their intentions of helping out ubuntu-ve locally.
I have to say the Venezuelan Free and Open Source community is really working hard to integrate the work done and to best contribute to eachothers proyects. Ubuntu-ve is keeps rocking as the train keeps rolling.
MOTU JOURNEY UPDATE: I am currently trying to work my first merge. I had chosen smc (since the Debian Maintainer is a friend of mine) but there is and issue with dependencies that are being solved before I can do this one. I am currenlty looking at another merge. expect an update this week and from there on I’ll be more constant.
Please bare with me as my talks get in the way of my MOTUness experience. it all goes into juggling my participation.

Come and meet ubuntu-ve…

Ubuntu-ve has opened up a planet. The main idea is to showcase the contributions of several members of the ubuntu-ve LoCo team and to further share with other spanish speaking LoCo teams. It is a opened door to the lives of the ubuntu-ve members that every day make ubuntu-ve ROCK. this planet is in spanish, a new planet fot the Ubuntu Solar System.
Big thanks to Nick Ali for all the crazy DNS changes and to Nick Motiff and Miguel Ruiz all the technical guidance towards making this planeta happen.
Great Thanks to the whole spanish- speaking community for the enourmous support.
¡VIVA UBUNTU!

MOTU JOURNAL UPDATE #3 : my first patch!
December 1, 2007 at 9:09 am | In English | 2 CommentsIn my last post. I was building the package after having added a new manpage for the ghc6 package. The next step was testing it and if it worked OK then generate the debdiff and attaching it to this bug in launchpad, I documented all that here. I received feedback and I was quick to make the changes.
I have to admit my first patch submission happened very fast. I am usually very shy to show my MOTU work as I consider myself very novice when it comes to bug fixing. but it was not problematic at all when it came down to building the package and testing. I have described the whole process step by step in my journal just in case you run into a manpage bug
.
Pimping my journal, as It gets longer and longer. I decided to add a small content table for easy access of certain parts of the journal. and I have to say it looks nicer.
Now I need to find me another bug …
