MOTU Journey Update: My first patch to debian and definetely learning lots

Yesterday morning, I received a nice task that seemed challenging enough for me to take:

 <Hobbsee> effie_jayx: please fix https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/110268

It the bug was on a game called Gweled, I had heard about it before. and It immediately appealed to me. I knew this represented more of a challenge. My bug fixes where all related to CLI apps, so this definetely represented a challenge.

Fortunatelly for me, reading the bug on launchpad gave me good insights on where the problem was:

bug comment

With a little help from the guys at #ubuntu-motu, I was able to fix this.  I have a journal entry for this in my MOTU JOURNEY LOG  . It covers all I did, including submitting the patch to DEBIAN.

Kudos to: Hobsee (for suggesting the bug and constant support) , sistpoty (for the fantastic Master crash course on autotools) , albert23 (for helping me pinpoint the real issue) and ScottK (for his pointers on submitting a patch to DEBIAN).

    Hi Efrain,
this may help. I was reading your MOTU JOURNEY LOG. In Lesson #5, there is this:
    ———————————————–
    In file included from getline_ssl.c:54:
getline_ssl.h:42:25: error: openssl/ssl.h: No such file or directory
getline_ssl.h:43:25: error: openssl/err.h: No such file or directory
    In file included from getline_ssl.c:54:
    ———————————————–
you can use ‘apt-file’ to help with a ‘No such file’ error.
    so:
    apt-file search openssl/err.h
    while will show:
    ———————————————–
    $ apt-file search openssl/err.h
    libssl-dev: usr/include/openssl/err.h
    libssl-dev: usr/include/openssl/err.h
    libssl-dev: usr/include/openssl/err.h
    ———————————————–
which shows that the missing file is in “libssl-dev”.
So maybe its a missing build-dep?
